On SUNDAY there are stillwater Opens scheduled on The Oaks, Woodlands, Carp Vale and Raker Lakes. Aycliffe AC host a Junior Open match on their Aycliffe Pond. Wansbeck and Cramlington AC hold both a Junior and Ladies match on Horton Grange, as well as a Pike match on the QE2. Middlesbrough AC fish a club match at Maple Lake on The Oaks complex at Sessay, while Steve Woods is holding another knock-up match on Whittle Dene, priced £10 all-in, 10.30-3.30pm.
Fellow blogger & mate Gary Matthews picked me up just after 6am. Our plan was to make sure we arrived at The Oaks in plenty of time to have a look around the complex and eat a nice breakfast before the all in. Unfortunately the M62 had other ideas and 2 junctions were closed. A lengthy detour saw us arrive at about 9.05am and join the queue near the back (not an ideal start as the draw started at 9am!!!) After a few hellos to some other local Wigan lads in the draw queue it was my turn to draw and I pulled out Peg 25 on Maple Lake. A rushed bacon and egg sandwich and Gary dropped me off near Maple a little later than expected. This water is one of the older lakes on the complex and is a mature snake lake with 64 pegs. My peg was at the far end of the water and near a corner and looked great with reeds lining both the near and far bank.

my first match on the Oaks at Sessay, Maple lake in ..
The Oaks Lakes, Sessay were opened in 1994. We originally opened with 1 lake; Willows. In 1996 we added the Oaks and Firs Lakes , followed in 1998, by Alders Lake ; this was soon followed by Poplars Lake , Maple Lake and the newly opened Cedar Lake (opened in November 2003). There are 4 main match lakes at The Oaks; Cedar (matches only), Poplar, Maple and Alders. The other 3 lakes, Firs, Oaks and Willows are always open to allow pleasure fishing. Pleasure fishing can also take place on Poplars, Maple and Alders providing that no matches are taking place. There is a notice to the entrance to the fishery providing information about which lakes have matches booked/taking place.
